Module 1: ENGINEERING COURSES - A : May 20th to May 31st in Tecnun, San Sebastian.

    The Process of Product Design & Development Product Analysis Hand Drawing and Sketching User Needs & Brand Identity Interaction Design Concept Generation & Selection CAD Modeling:

    ProEngineer 3D Printing Design Project

    The students will work in groups developing a product design project, supervised by faculty.



    Several technologies oriented to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, industry and transport will be described: efficient lighting systems and day-lighting, insulation materials, ventilation strategies, radiant floor heating, phase-change materials, transport electrification, etc.

    Practical part:
    Case study for the electric supply of a sustainable building, which electricity installation based on renewable sources will be designed using the HOMER software, including several simulations and analysis for other DG systems.

    Robotics,  it  is  called  to  be  one  of  the  greatest  technological  and  social  revolutions  of  the  future,   or  maybe  we  are already facing this revolution nowadays. Think about drones, self driving cars, autonomous robotic cleaners, 3d printers, space explorers...

    This summer course is intended to provide a global vision how to control Mobile Robots using ROS (Robot Operating System).  Robotics is a multidisciplinary field, requiring knowledge about mechanics, electronics and computer science.

    This course offers a theoretical point of view of all this concepts, as well as practical. During the course a Mobile  Robot Platform will be programmed by using  Python, ROS and Raspberry Pi.
    Practice: Microrobot construction and contest.


    Course Goals 

    • Understand the role of human culture in identifying and solving engineering problems.
    • Explore various frameworks for defining and analyzing cultural drivers in the context of engineering design.
    • Practise ethnographic methods for customer discovery, needs assessment and developing product design specifications.
    • Gain practical experience in writing and analyzing engineering and business case studies.
    • Learn from the diverse backgrounds and international experiences of course participants through group discussions and projects.

    Who can apply?

    The course is open to any Engineering students willing to learn how to work in international teams or within an international professional context.

    Grading & Participation
    Class discussions, interactions with lecturers, and student group work will play important roles in this course.

    Individual Assignments (both in and out of class): 50%
    Collaborative group work (both in and out of class): 50%

    Final Course Project
    Students will prepare ethnographic case studies that examine the influence of cultural norms, traditions and values on the development of an engineering product design.  The specific design problems and cultural settings will be determined in consultation with the instructors.  Students will have multiple opportunities to consult with instructors and other course participants as they develop and refine their case studies.  Peer to peer interviews and critiques will be leveraged to help each student leave the course with an original case study for their professional portfolios.
