Licentiate in Physics in 1979 and Ph.D. in Physics in 1985 by the University of Navarra. In 1984, I joined the Materials Department at CEIT, as the responsible of transmission electron microscopy. At present, I am a senior researcher with the Thermomechanical treatment group and an associate lecturer at Tecnun – University of Navarra.

Main research lines: Physical metallurgy and relations between microstructure and material behaviour at different temperatures.

Main topics: microstructure evolution during hot deformation of aluminium, fine characterisation of the interface on diffusion bonded metallic couples, precipitation studies on rapidly solidified copper alloys, hot workability of duplex and high alloy austenitic stainless steels, recrystallization, grain growth and texture, transformation from austenite: acicular ferrite, austempering, dual phase steels, transient effects produced by a strain reversal and microstructure-based property models.

This activity has been performed along 50 research projects and has produced the supervision of 18 doctoral theses. In parallel, the design of tailored equipment for the fulfilment of thermomechanical simulations at laboratory scale resulted in two patents. Non-confidential results have lead to slightly over 150 papers published at international Journals and Conferences and 12 technical documents with ISBN number.

Member, at present, of the Coordination Committee of the Spanish Steel Platform (Platea) and of the Technical Group TGS6 of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel of the European Commission.
