We are delighted to invite you to
participate in the upcoming Symposium on
Breakthroughs in Quality Management of Higher
Education, organised by the
University of
Navarra in cooperation with the Education Training and Activities
Group of the European Organisation for
Quality. The event will take place in Tecnun (University of
Navarra), San Sebastian (Spain) on 13
- 14 September 2007.
The official language of the symposium is English.

Educational institutions in the 21st
century are confronted with an ever changing world. Quality has
never been easy to define and is becoming even more difficult. What is
considered good education today may be obsolete tomorrow. The management of quality
in this turbulence is difficult; yet it is, even more crucial than ever.
Quality is a critical success factor if an educational institution wants
to sustain itself in the turbulence in order to compete with commercial
education in a globalising world.
Different
paradigms have been defined in quality management like: the
paradigm of process control, the
paradigm of integral quality management or the paradigm of breakthrough.
Education, like most other social sectors, has been largely involved in
process control (e.g. accreditation in higher education). Efforts have
been made to implement integral quality management (TQM and EFQM in
education). What is needed is breakthrough in Quality Management in
Higher Education. Some experiences related to these issues have emerged
over the last ten years.
The Symposium is focused on
evaluating the state of the art in these paradigms in education. Every
paradigm will consist of a keynote speaker, presentations of experiences
and research, and a workshop.
