OFFICIAL MASTER'S DEGREE IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
(BOE 9/10/09, resolution 16107, pag. 85363)
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The demand for technicians who are qualified to conceptualise, design, manufacture, test and certify, market, install, maintain, calibrate, repair, modify and train others in the use of equipment and medical instruments has been growing as advances in medical technology have raised questions about its effectiveness, efficiency and safety. These essential aspects of the technologies and medical devices are currently covered by European directives and the laws of all developed countries.

Medicine and the biomedical world more generally are increasingly evolving towards greater use of the latest technologies at all levels. In health centres, in industry and in research and technology centres there is a growing demand for highly skilled technical professionals who have biomedical knowledge.

The curriculum of the Master's programme is geared towards interdisciplinary training, which will give graduates a distinctive edge when joining the job market.

There are three areas that demand the type of training our MBE provides:

  • Industry: pharmaceutical labs, electromedicine and the diagnostic and therapeutic equipment industries, companies that develop the next generation of surgical elements and systems, and the manufacture of implants, prostheses and health-related products in general.

  • Medical Assistance: integrated management of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment in hospitals and medical centres. Integration of communication and data systems, planning and carrying out maintenance, equipment purchasing and renewal

  • Research: as members of biomedical research centres, as members of research groups in universities, as members of research departments in leading companies in the fields of pharmacy, medicine and biology. The Master's degree will also allow students to continue on to a doctoral programme in biomedical engineering.
