Information for students

The Internship and Employment Service helps TECNUN students complement their university study by doing an internship at a company or public or private institution. Students put the knowledge they've acquired into practice and develop the skills they will need in their professional career.

The School of Engineering, along with the Fundación Empresa-Universidad de Navarra, acts as an intermediary between companies and students, facilitating the search for internships and their management.

Internships are for students who have passed 50% of the credits needed to receive their university degree. Internships typically take place during the summer, but they can take place at any time during the academic year depending on the student's status and the company's needs. Internships cannot exceed 500 hours per academic year

Administrative process

Internships done at companies are subject to Royal Decree 1707/2011, November 18 under the Company-University Agreement. Internships are academic in nature and therefore students are in no way considered employees of the company. Internships are formalised via a cooperation agreement between the company, the University of Navarra and Fundación Empresa-Universidad de Navarra (FEUN).

Because internship students are not employed by the company, they are not registered with Social Security. FEUN provides interns with a policy that covers accidents and liability for the duration of the internship.

Financial Considerations

A company may opt to add to an internship student's financial aid package to give compensation for work performed.

If the company does not add to student financial aid packages, it must give FEUN 70 € for each student before he or she begins the internship.

If the company does contribute to a student's financial aid package, all financial and administrative processing will be channeled through FEUN as the student is receiving a grant from the Fundación and is not an employee of the company. In this case, company contributions will be given to FEUN. To the amount the company contributes for the student 10% will be added as a donation to the foundation's grant fund. The total amount a company gives to the Foundation is considered a donation and is therefore tax deductible. The Foundation issues certification of company donations each year so they can be declared on the annual income tax form.

Students who would like to do an internship at a company can see the posted offers at TECNUN and request to be included in the selection process for the internships they are interested in. To see the offers, students need to be registered in the system and visit the page for access to the internship system. If students arrange an internship on their own, they must inform the External Relations Service and do the administrative processing through FEUN. To do this, the company needs to complete the on-line form (in this case the student is already assigned) or fill in the corresponding paper form.
