The School of Engineering's research is carried out in close collaboration with Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas de Gipuzkoa (CEIT), a research centre, with which the School shares staff, labs and library. This way the theoretical approach of science is complemented with the applied research carried out at CEIT, an institution focused on industrial applications. Researchers are thereby trained in cutting-edge technologies and their applications and this in turn improves the quality of teaching.
The two basic features of CEIT are: firstly, its contribution to industrial innovation by carrying out strategic research projects for industrial companies that need to innovate their products. Secondly, its commitment to scientific and technical excellence, based on cooperative partnerships with universities, research centres and leading companies. These two features not only strengthen CEIT's know-how but also facilitate the training of PhD students.
This commitment contributes to industrial innovation in yet another way , given that a good number of PhD students at CEIT end up working for industry.
