Jacobo Paredes Puente
Jacobo Paredes studied mechanical and biomedical engineering at Tecnun, University of Navarra, where he received MS degrees in 2007 and 2008. He then joined CEIT to carry out his PhD in Biomedical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Sergio Arana. In 2012 he graduated after completing his doctoral thesis on the development of biosensors for early diagnostics of bacterial biofilm-related infections in indwelling medical devices. During this time Jacobo was also a lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering degree program at Tecnun.
During 2013 and 2014 he held a post-doc under the supervision of Prof. Dorian Liepmann at the Department of Bioengineering at UC Berkeley. While there he participated in leading projects in the field of microfluidic devices, biosensors and medical devices for diagnostics and novel treatments.
Currently, Jacobo is an assistant professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Tecnun, University of Navarra and researcher at CEIT. He teaches a number of courses related to biomaterials and tissue engineering in both the undergraduate and Master’s programs. His research interests focus on the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, biomedical microdevices involving plastic microfluidic devices, 3D printing, biosensors and biomaterials.
He is author or co-author of 9 scientific papers and he has participated in more than 10 conferences. He is co-author of 3 patents in the field of biomedical instrumentation. He is also a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals in the field of bioengineering.
