Francisco Javier Planes Pedreño
Francis Planes did an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Enginering at School of Engineering at the University of Navarra. In August 2008, he completed his PhD in Bioinformatics at Brunel University, UK, under the supervision of Professor John E. Beasley. He was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Prize for Doctoral Research at Brunel University. He subsequently joined the faculty at Tecnun, teaching Operational Research and Bioinformatics. In September 2009, he joined the Bioinformatics group at CEIT.
In carrying out his thesis, he designed novel algorithms based on discrete optimization to search for metabolic pathways in genome-scale metabolic networks. Currently, his research is devoted to the analysis of topology, structure, dynamics and regulation of metabolic networks and related applications. His group are currently involved in projects related to nutrition and obesity.
He has several publications in Bioinformatics and other professional journals.
